Our Laboratories

The premises occupy 35,000 square feet of purpose built laboratories and offices, and includes space for further expansion.  Areas are subdivided for sample reception, sample preparation, inorganic and organic soils and waters, geotechnical testing, fuel testing, plus other specialist areas.

Some of the most commonly requested parameters include:

• Metals – toxic metals, alkaline metals, speciated mercury
• Anions – chloride, sulphate, nitrate, phosphate etc
• Inorganics – pH, EC, TSS, TDS, BOD, COD,
• Volatile organic compounds
• PCBs
• PAHs
• Pesticides
• Asbestos
• Leaching tests, including BS EN 12457 for waste acceptance
• Engineering/geotechnical to BS 1377, BRE SD1, and TRL 447

DETS is regarded as a centre of excellence for asbestos testing, with accreditation for  presence, identification, quantification, and water absorption in soil and bulk materials.

DETS were one of the first laboratories to offer speciated mercury, to comply with the Environment Agency SGV recommendations for mercury in soil.

The majority of analyses are UKAS accredited to ISO 17025 and/or MCERTS for soil and water matrices, with more added to the scope each year.

Customer support includes supply of containers, couriers, technical advice, data interpretation, on site assistance, hire of equipment and seminars.
